The Hubbard Woods PTO involves parents and teachers working together on behalf of the school and its students.  Parent volunteers help create a strong sense of community, provide support to our teachers and staff, and sponsor programs and activities that enrich our children’s educational experience.

This website highlights the work of the PTO with the aim of helping parents navigate their time at the school and feel connected to the school community.

Hubbard Woods Annual Traditions

August -- New Family Playground Playdate: New families are welcomed on the playground for a playdate with new friends and buddy families.

August -- Buddy Family School Tour: New families are invited to tour the school prior to the first day along with their “Buddy Families.”

August -- Back to School Popsicles on the Playground: Families, faculty, and staff are invited to gather on the playground to celebrate the start of a new school year.

September -- New Parent Orientation: Enjoy refreshments and meet other new families in the Resource Center prior to Principal Daniel Ryan’s presentation.

September -- Go-to-School Night, Grades 1-4: Parents are invited to school in the evening to meet their child’s teacher, get an overview of the school year, sign up for volunteer opportunities in the classroom, and more.

October -- Go-to-School Night, Kindergarten: Parents are invited to school in the evening to meet their child’s teacher, get an overview of the school year, sign up for volunteer opportunities in the classroom, and more.

October -- Halloween Walk: Parents are invited to watch the students parade around the playground in their Halloween costumes prior to the classroom parties.  

Tuesday in November -- Idea Lab Night:  A fun night to engage in STEAM activities for HW families and experience the new Idea Lab.

Friday in November -- Fall Luncheon: One of the social highlights of the school year, Hubbard Woods parents, guests, and alumi are invited for lunch and a book dramatization by Barbara Rinella.  

November, Sailing the Mayflower – 2nd Grade:  An example of project based learning, second graders take a virtual voyage across the Atlantic in conjunction with their study of the migration from Europe to the New World in 1620.  

December --Winter Sing-Along: Students, teachers, and families come together to celebrate the joy of the season in song.

December -- Pajama Day: On the last Friday before Winter Break students, teachers, and staff are encouraged to wear their PJ’s to school.

February -- Parent/Faculty Party: A casual affair, this event brings together Hubbard Woods parents and faculty for a fun evening of food, drinks, and conversation.

March -- STEAM night: A fun evening of math games and activities for Hubbard Woods families.

Pioneer Room – 3rd Graders: As part of the pioneer unit, third graders spend the day just as real pioneers would have. (The Pioneer Room is at Crow Island School.)


March -- Spring Sing: Student creativity, music, and art come together in this seasonal evening performance.

March  -- Teacher Appreciation Week: For one week in March we celebrate our amazing teachers and staff by showering them with treats.  The week ends with a delicious catered lunch and special raffle for the teachers. 

April -- Earth Week: Students celebrate Earth Week with a variety of activities designed to help them become good stewards of our environment.

May -- Camp Edwards – 4th Graders: In the spring of fourth grade, students participate in an outdoor education experience at Camp Edwards in East Troy, Wisconsin. Students learn outdoor skills such as wilderness survival and archery while building community at the same time.  The trip gives students the opportunity to learn how to approach new challenges and to persevere when faced with these new challenges.

May -- Mayfest: For over 30 years Hubbard Woods Families have come together for one afternoon in May to put on a carnival on the blacktop! Families take turn working games and concessions and the event culminates with a grand raffle.  It is a fun day for all and the PTO’s largest fundraiser of the year.

June -- Field Day: This much anticipated event teams up children across grades 1-4 to compete in exciting games and activities.  

June -- HW Graduating Seniors Reunion: Hubbard Woods alumni graduating from high school are invited back for a reunion with teachers, staff, and one another.  

June -- Blamball & Yearbook Signing: Fourth graders take on the teachers in a game similar to softball while the other grades cheer them on.  Afterwards all students have a chance to get their yearbooks signed by friends and teachers.  

Fourth Grade Farewell: A special send-off for the fourth graders, this event includes breakfast and a video that celebrates the students’ time at Hubbard Woods.
